The Power of Connection in Senior Care Innovation

Last month, AscendRural hosted a Senior Care Matching Event that brought together rural community-based senior care organizations and technology companies for a day focused on connection, collaboration, and innovation — and the results exceeded expectations.

Designed to help organizations explore practical technology solutions through conversation rather than sales pitches, the event created meaningful opportunities for participants to discover potential partnerships. By the end of the day, 14 potential pilot projects were identified across eight community-based organizations and six technology companies.

What made the event especially impactful was the intentional structure. Organizations first explored their biggest challenges and needs before meeting with companies whose solutions aligned with those priorities. Throughout the day, participants engaged in three different types of interactions, including reverse table talks and speed-dating-style conversations, allowing time to build real dialogue and determine whether solutions were truly the right fit.

Rather than relying on traditional presentations, the event emphasized conversation and discovery. Participants were given worksheets and guided prompts to support both structured discussions and more organic conversations. Community organizations also had opportunities to connect with one another, sharing common experiences and ideas beyond the technology discussions themselves.

Feedback from both community organizations and technology companies was overwhelmingly positive, with community partners especially appreciative of the collaborative and thoughtful approach.

One story captured the spirit of the day perfectly. Jason, representing a smaller senior care organization from Minnesota, began the morning unsure whether the program was meant for an organization like his. By the end of the event, he left energized and optimistic after discovering technologies that could meaningfully ease workloads for his staff and improve support for the people they serve.

The event demonstrated the power of bringing the right people together in the right environment, creating space not just for innovation, but for practical solutions that can strengthen senior care communities moving forward.
